Job Title: Technical Support Engineer / Tech Trainer #1490

Responsibilities:

Provide technical phone support to equipment users and to those international and domestic field service engineers who are diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing one or all of the following equipment technologies used in ophthalmic applications; Excimer Lasers, WaveFront devices, Phaco Energy Systems, and Microkeratomes. In addition, provide responsible technical phone support to physicians and surgery technicians in an often stressful environment. While working in the Customer Response Center, you will support situations where standard procedures have failed to isolate or fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software. Report design, reliability and maintenance problems to QA and/or R & D departments. Provide answers for clinical applications and facilitating questions between customers and VISX support groups. Position also includes the writing of training curriculum as well as spending significant amount of time providing instruction to others in a class room environment. The position requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills necessary for managing product and process improvement projects from conception to implementation.

Requirements: (minimum requirements)

Applicant must have an AS Degree in electronics or electro-optics or equivalent experience. A minimum of 3 years experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting electronic systems which includes the ability to read schematics. Previous experience teaching and developing technical training materials preferred. Must possess excellent customer management skills and have the ability to work on MS Office and MS NT system applications. Position requires excellent analytical skills. The applicant must be capable of dealing with multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. Experience with optics for ophthalmic applications used in laser vision correction is highly valued. Experience in computer programming/computer hardware would also be considered a plus. Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities; be self reliant but have the ability to work within a team environment and maintain a positive and supportive attitude. Applicants must have a strong desire to self educate typically through self study and asking questions.

Field Service Engineer - Northeast Region - #1491

Responsibilities:
In this position, you will install, service and retrofit VISX refractive laser and WaveScan systems. You will be based out of your home and you will receive direction from the Northeast Regional Service Manager. N.Y/Boston based position includes approximately 70% northeast business travel, 20% reginal regionals travel, and 10% International business travel. Some overnight travel and weekend work is required. Responsibilities:
Chicago Territory. Remote management of customer accounts covering a multi-state region. Duties include, but are not limited to, phaco installations, emergency response technical visits, preventative maintenance visits and service sales of contracts and accessories. This job involves regular travel via airplane and company car. Responsible for providing repair data and recommendations to Operations Engineering for reliability improvement initiatives. Responsibilities:

Conduct research in wavefront technology for Laser Vision Correction. Identify techniques that enhance performance of current VISX products, carrying out feasibility studies in the lab, generating research reports and publications when applicable. Develop optical designs for diagnostic equipment. Support cross-functional activities for product development, software development, clinical studies, and marketing activities.

Minimum Experience/Education:

PhD in optics, applied physics, biomedical engineering or related field with at least 5 years of relevant work experience required. Experience with wavefront technology and adaptive optics for opthalmic applications; topography, optical-coherence-tomography (OCT), and other ophthalmic diagnosis devices is highly desirable. Solid background in optical design softwares such as ZEMAX, CODE V, ASAP and experience with optomechanical / mechanical softwares is required. Candidate should have excellent analytical skills, strong lab skills and programming skills in MATLAB and C++. Experience with laser vision correction and laser-tissue interaction is a plus.

This position requires 4 to 8 years as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer with experience on Microsoft Windows PC based software systems. Design, implement, test, document, and support all software embedded in VISX products and software used in the manufacture and service of VISX products. This includes analyzing and solving complex engineering problems related to software development. Specifically this person is required to work on the development of the software for the Wavefront instrument.

Experience (minimum requirements):

This position will be responsible for maintaining current VISX customers and new VISX customers within a designated geographic area. These responsibilities include but are not limited to business development, accountability of maintaining and increasing Key Card volume, and placing new equipment and upgrades to current platforms.
